Portuguese Golf Vacations On A Budget

It’s no secret that when it comes to having a relaxed, enjoyable golfing vacation some countries immediately jump to mind more than others. Some tourist hot spots are not the kind to attract any serious or part time players, whereas others are specific hop spots for the modern golfer. It’s safe to say when looking at the more highly regarded golfing vacation destinations that Portugal is considered one of the latter.

But it can be easy to forget how costly booking your stay with a specific golfing resort can be, or even how much the price can increase when booking a stay at a resort which is located close to a golf course. Most often than not it’s worth paying the asking price, particularly for the more experienced or discerning player, but there can be a number of ways to save cash on other expenses which come with the general travel of a holiday. Paying the extra costs for staying at a real golfing resort is often far more justifiable when savings can be made other aspects of travel

Making the right choice when you’re considering the locations for your Portuguese vacation is something which can save significant sums of money, even without lowering the quality of your chosen resort. This is simply because some places in Portugal are generally more expensive than others, for example it’s obvious that the capital city of Lisbon will be the most expensive place to stay and to golf. By comparison the smaller city of Lagos is cheaper for both hotels and flights although resorts in the Algarve area are cheaper still, regardless of their star rating. Simply by examining the cheaper, sometimes less popular, but by no means lower quality courses and resorts in other parts of Portugal huge savings are easily made on your stay and more importantly your golfing.

Another way of reducing the overall price of your trip is to drive yourself (and your clubs, if you usually take yours with you) to the airport and then to book your car in with a airport parking site online. This will easily save you money over booking a taxi with a big enough boot for your suite case and your club bag.

Finally don’t forget that renting clubs when it’s not as expensive as you might expect to take your own set away with you could cause you to spend unnecessary amounts of money. Again this relates back to booking into airport parking rather than a taxi, you’ll save cash on both choices and give yourself a more personal experience in regards to travel.

There are plenty of other ways to save yourself money on golfing vacations and most of them simply require a little research or comparison. A number of websites can provide price comparisons for resorts, cities and specific golf courses and many others can give user provided reviews of the same things. Using these sites and the previously mentioned tips is without a doubt the best way of saving yourself money on golfing vacations.

This parkland course, and the first foray into golf design by José Maria Cañizares, Añoreta is only the second to be built east of Malaga. Under the management of Mr. Francisco Alvarez and the chairmanship of Mr. Vicente Marín López, this 18 holes course offers a good challenge and is improving with age, something which summer golfers will welcome as the trees mature and the shady areas increase for relief from the heat.
Water is a major feature , used at eleven holes and unforgettable at the 17 where the green is surrounded on three sides. Most fairways are ample, as are the green and tees.

Some holes are difficult but spectacular and while the tremendous 528 mts 3rd hole offers wonderful sea views from the tee, you may not be very happy if you drive into the water hazard. The par 4 8th. with a dogleg to the right is, at 420 mts. full of trouble; watch out for the lake situated to the right of the fairway.

Malaga Airport Car Rental Golf tip of the day
Stance
golf instruction
The way you stand can make a big difference on the way you hit the ball. It can
also dictate the distance of your shot. Your Swing means everything. The way
you have your feet, you hold the club, where you are looking, and even how you
shift your body weight all come into play when you hit the ball.
Your stance is very important when you intend to hit the ball. There are three
different stances you should know which include square, open, and closed. One
thing to consider is that it is usually best to use the same stance as the same
clubface alignment.
For example, if you are using an open stance then you should use an open
clubface. Never move the clubface angle in a position that contradicts the way
you are standing.
When you use a stance that is square to the ball’s target line you will influence
the club to swing down the line a little bit longer than when you would if your
stance is open or closed.
If you were to measure where most golfers were actually aiming you would see
the square stance is most commonly used. An open or closed stance will actually
influence the shoulders to follow through properly.
An open stance should be used when you are moving the ball from left to right.
When you use an open stance you will align your stance slightly open. Your
shoulders will swing the club across the ball. The wider your legs are the more
open your stance is. The more open, the wider your shoulders will be also.
An open stance is a good solution for someone who tends to over swing on the
ball. The curvature and the trajectory of your shot also depend on the amount
you rotate the clubface when you address the ball. When you open the
clubface you get a high trajectory but a shorter shot.
A closed stance is the best way to stand when you are moving the ball from right
to left. That means your stance is slightly closed to the target line of the ball.
When your stance is closed your shoulders swing the club from the inside of your
body. A closed stance is the best solution when you are trying to pick up
distance on your swing. These shots will have less height but travel further.

Customer CommentsBarry saysPlayed this course in feb 2009 very enjoyable but watch out for the swamps. i nearly lost all my balls including my small pinks ones,had to get pulled out by my playing partners

Jono saysWe played this course in Mid Febuary, with a strong breeze, mild conditions and great optomism.
What a glorious day! The course is splendid, and in the wind was a tough examination of our skills. There are some wonderful challenges along the way.
The first few holes hold no clue to the astonishing views and sights to come. As we stood atop the course and looked over the med to (and beyond) Gibraltar, it was simply glorious. The par 4 was an anti climax (I had a 7 and my pals both parred it!)
An excellent course and if you are in the mood for good golf, reasonable price and stunning views, drive past Valderama and aim for Alcaidesa

Alhaurin Golf & Country Club Car Rental

Alhaurin Golf & Country Club by car rental

Directions
6km from Mijas near Malaga

Details
Architect : Severiano Ballesteros.
Accommodation : El Postillon Hotel
Course Details

Course Name: Alhaurin Holes: 18 Yardage: 6806 SSS:
This course is one of the most diligently designed coursewith tight fairways, posing a fair test for the golfer. The course has a great number of abundant of bunkers and water features.

What golfers have to say about this course;

Frank wrote;

I was interested to read the reviews of others after I played this course last week. With optional tees and slope ratings of 137 (yellow tees) and 139 (whites) it’s tough…real tough, and a stark contrast between two sets of 9 holes that do not sit comfortably together.
The front nine carves a magnificent path along ridge lines, between deep valleys, across ravines and drops to the valley floor. The vistas are incredible and the golf challenging and commanding a lot of thought about club selection and ball positioning before every shot. The par 5 6th is the signature hole and with optional tees brings a risk/reward factor into consideration and certainly standing at the tee you might wish you had played the course before to determine how far you need to carry the ball to cut the corner & present the opportunity to reach the green in 2. Certainly local knowledge is a big advantage here but this can be said of many “acclaimed” courses of similar slope ratings. Personally, I found the front 9 truly inspiring golf.
The back nine however is engulfed by condo development around some badly designed holes altho I suspect that owners have changed the layout from the originally intended design. Nevertheless the back 9 is resort golf that we have all played before and generally unspiring.
I’d stem condo development around the front 9 to preserve the natural vista’s and serenity of the course and have Seve design an adjoining 9 in the hills of equal championship calibre. I wouldn’t care what they did with the exisiting back 9

Ernie wrote;

Just returned from a trip to the Costa del Golf. Played Alhurin on the last day. This is a tricked up golf course. Has got a couple of very good holes and lots of very bad holes. On some holes you had to aim for other fairways to get your ball ending within the OB fences. I will not recommend this course to anyone. Los Arqueros is a much better Seve design.

BJ wrote;

I hated this course. OK, I got lost, it was raining, the staff weren’t very friendly and I played atrociously but overall I thought it was awful. We cancellled our second reservation and played Lauro again instead.
It’s in a fantastic setting but there’s so much building work going on directly around the course that all you could see and hear were the cranes and the pile-drivers.
The course itself is rediculously hilly (but then it is in the mountains) and it was so up and down that bad shots got rewarded by running down to the greens whilst pretty good shots would be punished if they got a bad-bounce of one of the 45degree banks. It was almost like playing snooker and trying to bounce off the banks.
Chatting in the bar/clubhouse afterwards even single figure handicappers were saying much the same. I think you’d have to be very good and have played this course often to get the most from it.
Finally, there is so much building work going on and it’s so far away from anywhere/anything else that when it’s all done and in high-season I can imagine it will be very difficult to get on this course and will be very slow with everyone looking for balls that have run off the fairways and greens!
