Malaga Airport Terminal 1 Car Hire

The car hire desks in Terminal 1 are located to your left just before you exit the sliding doors into the arrivals hall.

Once you have picked up your keys a member of the rent a car staff will inform you on which level of the car park your rental car is situated on and also the number of the bay that it will be parked in. You will then go through the sliding exit doors and into the arrivals area.

From here exit terminal 1 to your left and cross over the road to Car Park P1 that will be directly in front of you.

Malaga Airport Terminal 2 Car Hire
Access to the car rental desks in Terminal 2 is via a ramp in the arrivals hall. You will notice large car hire signs that point you to a ramp that takes you downstairs to where all the car hire offices are based.

You need to present the credit card on which the booking was made, your booking paperwork and driving licence before you will be issued with the car keys. You will also be told in which bay and on which level of the car park you will find your rental car.

You will then exit this hall via a shallow ramp that brings you directly out to the car parks at Level -1.

Malaga Airport Terminal 3 Car Hire

The car hire desks are located in the ground floor arrivals area of the new Terminal 3 at Malaga Airport. Once you have picked up your keys a member of staff will inform you on which level of the car park your rental car is situated on and also the number of the bay that it will be parked in.

Both car parks are connected to Terminal 3 through the transportation hub.

Car Hire Drop-Off at Malaga Airport

When you return your rental car you will access Malaga Airport via Avenida Garcia Morato which is the approach road that comes off the MA-21 (formerly N-340) national road into Malaga Airport.

Just after the roundabout you will see all the relevant road signs which indicate what lane you should be in to access the different areas of Malaga airport. Car rental return will be the first exit road to your immediate left.

Follow the car rental return signs until you reach the entrance for you rental agency car park. You do not have to return the keys to the original terminal based car hire office as there is a corresponding desk for each company in the car park.

Malaga Airport And Returning Your Car Rental

Malaga Airport is situated just outside of the city centre of Malaga around 8 klm on the Costa del Sol it is easy to access from the main N340 / A7 highway. As a guide if you are renting a car from malaga airport and travelling to and from Marbella or Puerto Banus it will normally take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on time of year and traffic conditions some times of day will be worse than others early morning and early afternoon are the worst and extra time will be needed if your catching a flight,remember you will need extra time aswell if you are returning a hire car at malaga airport. From Fuengirola the journey should take about 20 to 25 minutes and from Nerja (east of Malaga) it should take around 40 minutes.

 The new terminal 3 building at Malaga Airport is just about complete but there works in progress on the local road infrastructure so please allow extra time and pay careful attention to road signs as the traffic flow is open to change.

 New Terminal 3 Building – Malaga Airport Now open

Opened to the public in March 2010 by the king of spain the state of the art  terminal 3 building at Malaga Airport will be a  great addition to tourists as increasing the number of flights that can be handled at Malaga Airport quite considerably. It will also have one the of largest ‘food halls’ in Europe and bring to the Costa del Sol some brand new outlets such as Starbucks Coffee Shop, the Whoppa Bar and much more.

Travelling to and from Malaga Airport

By hire car – From the Marballa area take the N340 / A7 highway and follow until you see the sign for Malaga Airport just after the highway reduces from 3 to 2 lanes. At various stages of the N340 / A7 you can choose to take the AP7 (toll road), which is a much quieter road. The toll road will merge with the N340 again just after Fuengirola. Tolls vary at different times of the year and are dependent upon where you join it.
From the East of Malaga take the N340 and stay on it until you see the signs for the airport exit.

By Taxi – All towns have taxi ranks and the cost will obviously depend upon where you are travelling from. As a guide you should expect to pay around 70 to 75 euros from Marbella. At the airport itself there is a taxi rank just outside of the arrivals terminal.

By Bus – There are many buses than run to and from Malaga Airport to many different towns of the Costa del Sol. If you are travelling to a smaller village or town you may have to change at one of the bus stations.

By Rental Car – Most car rental companies at Malaga Airport are either within the airport or just outside it. For those that are outside they all provide a courtesy bus service.

Malaga Airport Technical Information

Facilities at Malaga Airport are very good and at the moment there is a single asphalt runway which is 3,200 metres long. However as part of the current expansion palns there will be another runway in operation around 2010. There will also be an addition of a third terminal building which recent visitors will already be aware of due to the major construction work that has been ongoing for the last few years. The planned completion of the new Malaga Airport terminal building should be in 2008.

During the year 2006 Malaga International Airport received a staggering 13 million passengers, which is a huge increase from the 6.6 million that it used to receive back in 1996. Numbers will increase significantly when the new runway and terminal buildings are completed and it is estimated that numbers will be in the region of 20 million each year by 2015.

Malaga Airport is one of the main hubs for tourism in Spain as it serves flights to and from 60 different countries worldwide. To this day the main and busiest routes remain the UK and Ireland.

Being the forth largest Spanish airport investment in Malaga Airport is huge with some 890 million euros being invested between 2004 and 2010.

As part of the expansion of Malaga Airport there are 3,000 new car parking spaces available to visitors.
